Flash Fiction

The 'Weird' Kid

He awakened to Biersack's voice on the stereo, and dragged a hand through his bed-raggled hair. It was yet another school day.
"When you can’t take anymore, of what they’re living for, Set The World On Fire..."
He forced himself to get out of bed, pulled on some clothes and brushed out his hair. Today was his birthday, and he was not excited. His parents were ashamed of him, and his entire school thought he was a freak.
All Casper wanted for people to accept him for who he was. He did not want to go, but could he avoid school forever?
Everyday held harassment: stares, remarks, and even occasional beatings. His only true friend was his stuffed bunny toy. He contemplated putting on his usual eyeliner, considering what could happen to him if he did. He decided to blacken his flood-lines. He straightened out a wave in his charcoal black hair, and placed a spiked collar around his neck. He would worry about the embarrassment later.
He thought about what has been said to him, and who he is. "Freak, loser, weirdo, Outcast, goth, emo, gay". Was he really those things? He identified with subcultures, but how was it so terrible? He could not fathom it. He sighed and went to find his shoes.
Casper sat on the edge of his bed tying the laces, and remembered what life was like when he would pretend to be like everyone else, wear the brand names, listen to 'normal' music. It was Hell. But no one hated him, in fact, he was kind of popular. All he did was start to be himself and instantly, his so-called friends laughed, jeered, even hurt him, trying to "beat the gay out of him". He never saw how
a sexual orientation was such an insult, but hated being called that.
His parents thought his Satan; believe his music was of the devil, that his clothes were just for attention, that he would outgrow this 'phase'. He knew this was him for life.
