Warner, Brian. "Marilyn Manson - No Reflection" YouTube video. 2012. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuhgWXg4rw4

...This song is an example off of Marilyn Manson's newest album "Born Villain". The entire album is a reflection of Brian Warner's childhood and history. "Show myself how to make a noose, A gun's cliche, and a razor too, I'm not a deathshare vacation, vacant station, Made of scars and filled with my old wounds" (Manson, No Reflection). He is reflecting upon his past, (the 'No Reflection' part is mostly referring to a literal sense), and he is trying to show that he will not feel disgrace towards himself, as his past shaped who he is today. This can connect to R. W. Emerson's quote in the sense that he is not letting himself fall to feeling persecution, in all honesty, he very much so is persecuted, whenever he is contradicted. He is saying that he has no reflection, he's weak, and he does not have a sense of his personalities, because he lacks the ability to see himself...

(As a side note, I was originally intending to quote the song Born Villain, which was beyond an excellent myriad of examples, BUT it had too much inappropriate language, so I settled for No Reflection. Although, you can check out Born Villain, but to be warned it is graphic and explicit. The song and uncensored video is honestly a superb view into the life Brian Warner. As a child he lived with a perverted grandfather, which is much of the reason of his sexually explicit videos and songs. The man was 'corrupted' at a young age. In the video, it shows him eventually shoot his grandfather in the head, which is symbolic, because as a child he wished death upon the man every time he gazed upon him. The lyrics make so many references to his life... If you are interested in actually understanding him, I highly recommend reading his biography "Long Hard Road Out of Hell". It is worth the time, and brings you up close to the goth rocker and his past. It is disturbing, but if a 12 year old Manson fan -me in grade 7- can handle it, I'm certain a teacher can.)
