Sookie Stackhouse's limiting beliefs.
Sookie Stackhouse, from the memorable over 10 book Sookie Stackhouse or Southern Vampire series, has many limiting beliefs and things that hold her back.
One: her telepathy. Her telepathy prevents her from having a normal relationship with non-supernaturals, because you can't have a good conversation with someone when you know exactly what they are about to say, before they even know they are about to say it. She knows personal information that she should not know, all because she can always hear people's thoughts.
Two: her ex-boyfriend Bill. Bill prevents her from having a real relationship with Eric, because her Vampire Bill lives nearby, and he creeperly 'protects' her, by watching her house at a distance through a graveyard.
Three: her ordinary world. She lives in a small town, in which vampires are usually frowned upon, and when both of her boyfriends have been vampires, she is not looked highly on. She is fairly middle class, has the remnants of her inheritance, has to keep fixing up her house, she works as a waitress, or now a vampire helper (reads human minds to solve mysteries, ex. who was embezzling from Eric, who set the bombs in the hotel, who was murdering women for being with vampires, and many more)
Four: her fears. She is afraid to die, be seriously injured, and afraid that if she does fall in love with Eric, she could never have children with him. She could marry him, become a vampire and spend eternity with him, but she would never be a mother, something that she really, really wants.

Truly, Madly, Deadly : The Unofficial True Blood Companion - Becca Wilcott
(Book written about show, that was based on the Sookie Stackhouse book series)
Sookie Stackhouse is the full hero of my series. Her archetype is the hero, because she risks her life several times for every species in human-ish form. Some examples from the books are: 1st book, she risked her life for Bill Compton, an almost complete stranger, and a vampire, while he was being drained (people drink vamp blood because it can heal and revitalize, drainers make fortunes off blood), she risks her life for Eric in book 5, she risks her life for hundreds of humans and vamps in a hotel bombing, she risks her life at a Were meeting, she risks her life for witches, were-shifters, and humans SO many times.
A quote from the show, and from Truly, Madly, Deadly, is
"Hey you just shut your nasty, mister! You might be a vampire, but when you talk to me, you will talk to me like the lady that I am!"
- Wilcott, Becca Truly, Madly, Deadly, page 38 Toronto: ECW Press, 2010. Print.
Right after saving Bill, he made a crude remark, and even when standing up to the supernatural, she still stood up for her beliefs and the female rights. She stood up for being respected.
Sookie is a hero because she has self-sacrifice, somewhat reluctance, and a lot more. She tands up for what she believes in, and uses her 'gift' (telepathy) to help others and doesn't abuse her power. In fact, she doesn't like it at all. She sees her telepathy as a curse, whereas Spider-Man doesn't see his 'Spidey Powers' as anything but awesome.
DC is WAY better than Marvel. - it just is.

Archetypal Hero Traits
Dead in the Family - Sookie Stackhouse series
Charlaine Harris
Eric Northman is the shapeshifter. He changes character often. His personality changes as the story progresses, when we first are introduced to him in the first 2 books, he seems like a mean, grouchy, selfish vampire. Then a more smooth, and seductive, charming, selfish, vampire, in the first 4 books. But then later, when his memory is erased by a bunch of annoying witches, you see the real side of him. When Eric has nothing but his instincts and human feelings, ( centuries will make you feel less human), he is a sweet, scared and loving vampire. But eventually his memory returns (and he has a load of memories with Sookie, the heroine), he reverts to his old self. But his feelings begin going more human as the series go on, leading us to book 10.
In the thus far final book, Eric has a facade of his old self to all the other vampires, and most humans, but he is a sweet, loving, caring and all around great guy to his girlfriend (technically married to) Sookie. In the last book, he is devoted and loyal to her, and tries his hardest to save her, and protect her from the strange vampire politics in the world where everyone knows vampires exist and live off of bottle of synthetic blood.
(I no longer have a copy of this novel in my possession, so I can summarize a scene)
Eric came to visit Sookie. They were talking in her room when Eric's maker, and his maker's other vampire *son* appeared. (A maker is the older vampire that creates another vampire, and is kind of like their father/mother) Eric automatically tried to shield and protect Sookie from his creepy maker, and tried to keep her safe. If his maker had shown up one year before, Eric would have been more concerned for himself, and this shows how much he had grown. His maker had (he is now permanently deceased) the power to kill Eric in a milli-second, and Sookie being human, before she would even notice he moved. Eric went from the selfish, beautiful vampire, to the caring, selfless vampire, who would die for his love. -originally written by Charlaine Harris, Dead in the Family.

BLOG NUMBER FIVE
I am currently recreationally reading the Sookie Stackhouse series. (It is not one of the option books, (I am starting Lord Of the Flies upon book's completion), but it is the most current book I am reading. )
FROM DEAD TO WORSE - Charlaine Harris
Sookie Stackhouse is a telepathic waitress, living in Bon Temps Louisiana. Her first beau Bill turned out to have been sent by Sophie-Anne, vampire queen of Louisiana, and he pursued her out of orders (but he did fall in love with her), Eric her second love is a powerful Viking vampire, beautiful and dangerous, and had earned her love when he had amnesia and was a completely different person, (which he remembers nothing of), and Quinn is her boyfriend, he's a weretiger. Sookie has had a difficult time ever since a dark, pale, mysterious man went into the bar she worked in, Merlottes, and her life changed....
I'd helped save lives after the pyramid went down, and I was terrified I was now on the radar of people who might want me to spend my time in their service, using my telepathy for their purposes. Some of those purposes were good, and I wouldn't mind lending a hand in rescue services from time to time, but I wanted to keep my life to myself. I was alive; my boyfriend, Quinn, was alive; and the vampires most important to me had survived, too. As far as the troubles Sophie-Anne faced, the political consequences of the attack and the fact that supernatural groups were circling the weaked state of Louisiana like hyenas around a dying gazelle, I didn't think about it at all.
After a trying night of vampire politics, an assassination attempt on her, conflicting emotions, and a fight, Sookie goes up stairs in the hotel to bed. She gets into bed, but sleep does not come. She is waken by a telepathic message from Barry, a fellow telepath being used by vampires, telling her Jake, a Were turned into a vamp, was laying on the floor. The Fellowship of the Sun, a group of anti-vampire activists, placed bombs in the building. Sookie and Barry figure this out, and pull the fire alarm just in time for virtually all the humans to get close to getting out of the building, but not the vampires, it was day time. Sookie raced up to her two friends', Eric and Pam's, hotel room and helped wake Eric enough to cover him in a huge cloak and escape outside. After the bombs went off, many people were hidden and dead. Sookie and Barry used their powers to discover bodies, living, they can hear their minds, dead, there is nothing, and vampire is a space. Sookie didn't want the police to realise her powers.

""You're kidding," I said.
"Why would I joke about something like that?"
"I don't know."
"If you don't believe me," she said, "ask somebody else. Though I should warn you. Popular wisdom has it that only losers ever see him."" - Charles De Lint, The Blue Girl
Imogene, the person narrating, reminds me of people's reactions to the idea of ghosts. In this Maxine and Imogene were discussing the creepy Harry Potter looking guy that Imogene keeps seeing, and then he disappears. Maxine tells her she has been seeing Ghost. No one knows his real name. But he is a ghost. When I say, "Oh my gosh!! I saw a ghost", some non-ghost believers, will be like, "ugh its just your imagination, stop being so paranoid.". Well, this part of the story is similar to when I talk about the supernatural to friends.

Imogene could not tell most people about what was going on in her life. This is similar to the Southern Vampire/ Sookie Stackhouse series. Sookie is a telepahic barmaid in southern Louisiana. She has never out right told anyone of her 'gift'. She hates it. She tries to ignore it until one night in the bar a pale, lone man walks in, and orders a bottle of O Positive. Tru:Blood. Her world changes after that. As does Imogene's when she talks to Ghost. He turns out to have been an outcast, and a little nerdy teen boy named Adrian, died from falling out of the sky, and introduces her to the world of mystery, inside our own. Bill, (the vampire), and others teach Sookie what else is out there. Weres, shifters, fairies, goblins, and more, all inside our little, ignorant society.

I am answering:
How do myths survive the passage of time?
Why do people in the 21st Century still know, study and use ancient stories like myths?
When will myths cease to exist?
Myths have been too important to our history to forget about, let alone stop telling. Myths survived through all these time changes because without myths our modern story telling would not be at all the same. We still know about, study and talk about mythology from centuries before, because it is important to us. It is very interesting to hear about how the ancient civilizations, cultures, and peoples believed the world was. Myths survive in books, television, and music. When you hear Hercules, you associate him with Hades, Zeus, Hera, and many of the mythological monsters. Myths will never cease to exist, because they are our history. They are our old ways, giving contrast to our new ways, our old ideas, and explanations. Mythology will never die, because there too many ways it exists.
Unless the Earth explodes, or all humanity dies, and all our books, movies, and records are destroyed.

Blog Number Two

I have recently read two books; Keturah and Lord Death by
M artine Leavitt and The Blue Girl by Charles De Lint.
Keturah and Lord Death:
Keturah was in her garden, when she saw the hart. She followed it into the woods, but got very lost. She walked for a couple days straight, never finding her way out. Lord Death came to her. So she made a bargain. She would tell him the end of a story she just told him tomorrow, if he let her live for the day. So, she kept tricking him into giving her one more day. During her days she had to look for her true love, never found him, helped save the village, and helped it prosper. Keturah had two true loves, and decided to go with Lord Death, and become his bride.

I would say this is a well-written book, although it is fairly predictable. It is interesting, with a nice dark under tone, and keeps you guessing a little. But, it is obvious, and ends without a very happy ending. It is a little disappointing as well, because you have a hope that she will marry John Temsland, the nobleman's son, and become a lady, but instead goes with Lord Death, but on the upside she becomes a Queen of Death.
The Blue Girl:
Imogene is very angsty with a bad history. She discovers at her new high school there is a ghost that is following her, named Adrian. She eventually talks to him, and finds out there are fairies, and other things out there, and living in a dimension passed through by closets. She is turned blue by a pollen to protect her, and along with friend Maxinxe, defeats the evil things in the shadows with blue paint. Adrian the ghost decides to go on to what's next after death.

This is a very well written book, very interesting, and so strange to the point where you can't really guess what is going to happen next. It is obvious that Imogene would triumph over the anithmim, (the evil soul eater guys), but how she does so, is not only surprising, but rather humourous. She defeats them by throwing blue paint on them, rendering them mortal, and Maxine strikes a deal with them. I recommend this book to any out of the box thinking teens.

Blog Number One
Today I am blogging about the first blog assignment, a quote that describes me. After much deliberation, and considering I have chosen a quote on individuality by Stacey Charter.
" There comes a time when you have to stand up, and shout 'This is me d*** it! I look the way I look, think the way I think, feel the way I feel, love the way I love! I am a whole complex package. Take me... or leave me. Accept me - or walk away! Do not try to make me feel like less of a person, just because I don't fit your idea of who I should be, and don't try to change me to fit your mold. If I need to change, I alone will make that decision. When you are strong enough to love yourself 100%, good and bad - you will be amazed at the opportunities that life presents you. "
This shows how I feel about many things. I am tired of being teased for being myself. Yes, I am goth, and I am proud. If they want to dress like each other, and be so similar in appearance in interests you can guess most of the things about them, fine. I don't care about what they choose to like, as they shouldn't about me. If they don't like me, that's cool for them. I will still try hard to give them respect, and even show some courtesy, but I will never become what they believe is normal. Stacey says " don't try to change me to fit your mold.". She talks about how everyone should be different, and themselves. I believe that is they choose to conform to societies tight laced ideas, that's their problem. As long as what they do doesn't hurt anyone or anything, its up to them. This quote virtually represents me, although I have to admit, I could never love myself 100%. I will always find flaws in myself, and seek to change myself for the better. I will change because I choose to.
Thanks for reading, tune in next time for "Blog Number Two". :D
